Vision

The vision of the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre (QVWC) is to provide a physical and virtual space for the women of Victoria to reach their full potential, bring about social change and provide opportunities for women to be inspired for the future.

Purpose

Our purpose is defined with the following goals:

  • To resource, inform and encourage women to build their personal capacity to overcome barriers and realise their human rights.

  • To work within a feminist philosophy to empower women and to nurture and nourish women to build their capacity and fulfil their goals.

  • To promote women’s activism and women’s causes.

  • To address social disadvantages and effect social change.

  • To provide a physical and virtual space for the women of Victoria to reach their full potential and bring about social change.

  • To assist women to assist themselves.

  • To breathe life into the building.

  • To recognise the origins of the building as an important representation of ‘women getting together’.

  • To be open to all women in their diversity and work together across this diversity to allow women to realise their full potential.

  • To offer and house a range of women’s services including, commercial and not for profit services for women, by women.

  • To provide a healthy workspace, and performance and entertainment space.

  • To be a resource for regional and rural women.

  • To work with other women’s organisations and services at all levels, to encourage cooperation and coordination of delivery of service to women.

  • To be accountable to the women of Victoria by encouraging and promoting the use of the Centre.

Objectives

In order to achieve these goals, the QVWC has a clear and united vision that’s guided by a feminist understanding of empowerment and the promotion of the advancement of women as individuals and collectively. The ways in which the QVWC Trust (the body that governs the Centre) is practically meeting the QVWC’s purpose are outlined in the following objectives:

QVWC’s InfoHub and Capacity Building Project

  • To promote the Centre and its services.

  • To provide women with information about accessing the services offered by the Centre, as well as those provided by other Victorian women's organisations. 

  • To create opportunities to share and explore information to assist women to reach their full capacity.

Breathing life into the building

  • Enact good governance and management of the building and operate within the parameters set down in the Queen Victoria Women's Centre Act 1994.

Diversity

  • Develop an open and inclusive environment that celebrates women’s individual, community and organisational diversity.

Income Generation

  • Actively seek income to service current and future activities and identify a sustainable resource base for the organisation.

  • Generate income by means compatible with the Centre philosophy.

Our Legacy

  • Effectively represent the symbolism of the struggle to save the building and the origin of the Centre in former Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital.

  • Build on the historic importance of the building as it symbolises women getting together to achieve a goal.

Working with and building and Strategic Relationships

  • Build on existing and establish strategic alliances with women’s organisations across the State.
