Intimate Partner Violence

Intimate partner violence (sometimes referred to as domestic violence) occurs when one individual uses violence or abuse as a way of gaining power and control over another person that they are, or were, in an intimate relationship with. The violence may be physical, verbal, sexual, emotional or financial.
