Work Family Balance
Achieving a balance between paid work and family responsibilities is a goal that eludes many workers, especially women. Earning enough income, while caring for family and creating personal time is no easy task.
Current research shows that women provide most of the paid and unpaid care in Australia. While some women choose to be the primary carer for their children, elderly parents or other relatives, it’s often difficult to make a ‘real choice’. Social, economic, political and cultural pressures, along with inflexible working conditions and a lack of quality, affordable care, all impact on women’s choices.
InfoHub resources provided by the Work Family Balance women’s networks aim to provide a better understanding of your rights at work, including the award, agreement or union that covers your entitlements; child care options; balancing work with breastfeeding and pregnancy; current research; government programs; and real examples of flexible work options so that women can make informed decisions about improving the balance between paid work and family responsibilities.
All the Work Family Balance links have been selected by a network of individual women and organisations that are expert in the work family balance field. This ensures the links are reliable, reputable and relevant to Victorian women. To find out more about the Work Family Balance contributors read about the Work Family Balance Network.
